Lemon Grove Students to Get Special Visit by Penguins, Bamboo Sharks

The animals will visit Monterey Heights Elementary School as a part of SeaWorld's "SeaWorld Cares" program on Wednesday.

Nearly 300 students at Lemon Grove's Monterey Heights Elementary School will get to spend Wednesday morning with some special visitors from the sea.

SeaWorld will be bringing bamboo sharks in a portable touch-pool, along with two Humboldt penguins, to the school for an educational visit as part of their "SeaWorld Cares” program.

"The SeaWorld Cares outreach program teaches kids about coastal conservation, animal rescue and rehabilitation, and how people’s everyday actions can make safer habitats for animals," a press release from SeaWorld says.

The local students will attend one of two hour-long assemblies, in which a SeaWorld employee will show off the bamboo sharks and penguins, and also lead a mock sea turtle animal rescue with the assistance of some student volunteers, according to event organizers.

Approximately 280 pre-K through third graders will get to take part in the special assemblies.
