School Board to Hear from Parent Groups Tonight

DELAC and PTA will present their reports to trustees.

The five-member governing board of the Lemon Grove School District will hear from an advisory panel and PTA leadership at tonight’s board meeting at the Community Center.

Representatives from the District English Learner’s Advisory Committee (DELAC) and PTA will present trustees with reports on their activities. While both are parent-based organizations, the DELAC is a panel required by the state to advise board members on the district’s programs and services for English learners.

Other items on tonight’s agenda include honoring librarian Amparo Madera, the former branch manager of the who recently transferred to a new post in Encinitas, for her longtime service to students and the community.

Bernice Parham, a cafeteria playground assistant at San Miguel Elementary School, will also be recognized for her quick thinking during an emergency. Parham saved the life of a child who was choking by performing the Heimlich maneuver.

In addition, Board members will see a presentation from the Monterey Heights Elementary School staff as part of the district’s effort to spotlight each of its school’s unique qualities and achievements throughout the year.

Action items for the board include approving and filing the 2011-2012 Second Interim Report, a budget report that certifies the district is able to meet its financial obligations for the year.
