School District to Host Final Forum on Campus Closure Wednesday Night

Trustees are expected to make a decision at the Jan. 24 school board meeting.

The last in a series of three community forums hosted by the Lemon Grove School District will take place Wednesday at Palm Middle School to hear public feedback on a campus closure or realignment needed for the next school year.

The school board heard at its Jan. 10 meeting that a parent-based school closure/realignment committee is unanimous on one option to close a school, but is also looking for other options, according to Glenn Heath, the district’s director of human resources. The committee is scheduled to meet again Jan. 20, and present a recommendation to trustees at the Jan. 24 board meeting.

Budget cuts and shrinking enrollment have cost the K-8 district about $10 million over the last four years, and school officials anticipate an estimated $1.6 million to $3.1 million in additional reductions for 2012-2013.
