Winners of Lemon Grove Essay Competition Announced

We are pleased to announce the awardees in the 24th Annual Treganza History Essay Competition for Third Grade:

First Prize: Michelle Grace Rivera (San Miguel School, Mrs. Sowvlen)
Second Prize: Ellecia Hernandez (San Miguel School, Mrs. Campbell)  
Third Prize: Eileen Gonzalez (Golden Avenue School, Mrs. Bargenquast)
Honorable Mention: Daniel Diaz (San Miguel School, Mrs. Campbell)
Honorable Mention: Elizabeth Flores (San Miguel School, Mrs. Shea)
Honorable Mention: Rubi Lupercio (Golden Avenue School, Mrs. Bargenquast)
Honorable Mention: Kalia Izel Sepulveda (San Miguel School, Mrs. Sowvlen)

Awards will be presented at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 3 at 6 p.m. in the Community Center, 3146 School Lane.  In the fine tradition of the competition, Mayor Mary Sessom will introduce the ceremony and present the awards to the students.  

The jury greatly enjoyed reading the essays (which ranged from adorable to hilarious to touching) and their comments were frequent on the clear pedagogical effort to guide these little ones toward compare and contrast, persuasive writing, paragraph structure, historical detail and in-your-own-words.  Well done, all!
