Lemon Grove Councilmember Racquel Vasquez was the only representative for Lemon Grove at yesterday's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade. She was accompanied by her husband, Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy Jose Vasquez, and her daughter, Miss Preteen Coastal Cities 2014 Raven Vasquez.
The annual parade celebrates the legacy of the civil rights leader, and included high school musical bands from as far as Arizona, floats, and drill teams that marched and waived to the thousands of spectators along the Embarcadero, from North Harbor Drive to Broadway.
Vasquez was the first person of any diversity to be elected to the Lemon Grove City Council, and it is her second year that she has participated in the parade.
