Scenes from the Relay for LIfe

Hundreds took part in the annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

Hats off to the hundreds of people who took part in the 2011 Relay for Life of Lemon Grove on Saturday, May 21, to raise money for the the American Cancer Society.  There were 24 teams representing schools, churches, service organizations, the city and others, with 248 team members signed up this year. Many more registered as the event was under way.

The event started with an opening ceremony and cancer survivors, wearing purple shirts, took a special lap around the field. Music, entertainment and lots of activities created a festive atmosphere and kept everyone motivated for the 24-hour event. Saturday evening's highlight was the luminaria ceremony.

Thank you to Marjie Cappiello and Racquel Vasquez for sharing these photographs.
