Weekend Guide to What's Going On in Lemon Grove—and Beyond

Events close to home, and further afield.

There's a big weekend ahead, with plenty to do and see, and lots of fun to be had.

Saturday offers an embarrassment of riches when it comes to goings on around town. And if you've caught your breath by Sunday and are looking for more action, you won't have far to go.

Here's a look at the weekend:

LEMON GROVE LIBRARY GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION
Years in the making, the brand-new Lemon Grove Library is set to formally open its doors to the community with a grand ribbon cutting and daylong celebration.

Festivities kick off at 10 a.m. at the library, 3001 School Lane, with remarks from local officials and dignitaries. A block party features a variety of fun activities hosted by the city, the Lemon Grove HEAL Zone and the Lemon Grove Rotary.

The library has been open since May 20.

COFFEE WITH THE COMMUNITY
Meet Lemon Grove's top cop for a cup of joe Saturday morning at Civic Center Park. Capt. Pete Callewaert will be on hand to meet residents, hear concerns and exchange ideas on crime prevention from 8:30-9:45 a.m.

WINGS OVER GILLESPIE AIR SHOW
The annual event features aerial and ground displays, military re-enactors, paratroopers and a mock battle with "pyro" (yikes) Saturday and Sunday at Gillespie Field in El Cajon.

LA MESA FIREFIGHTERS PANCAKE BREAKFAST
Join Heartland Fire & Rescue for a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday at Fire Station 11, 8034 Allison Ave. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice, and coffee are just $5. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of East County.
