A private church service is planned Thursday for the family of the late former San Diego Chargers linebacker Junior Seau, while a public "Celebration of Life" tribute is set for Friday. Supporters of the family have said the private service would take place at a church in Oceanside, but the location was not being reported because the mourners are seeking privacy. Friday's event for the hometown hero, who graduated from Oceanside High School, is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Qualcomm Stadium. Admission and parking will be free and on a first-come, first-served basis. According to U-T San Diego, anywhere from 30,000 to 60,000 people are expected to attend the event, which is being paid for by the Chargers. It should last about 90 …

The longtime Lemon Grovian was a former planning commissioner and school board member, and served the Helix Water District.
Warren Buckner, 92, a great Lemon Grovian, died on March 30. His memorial is set for May 12 at 1:30 p.m. at Vista La Mesa Christian Church. Buckner chaired the Lemon Grove Planning Commission from 1978 to 1980 when he resigned to serve the Helix Water District for the next 27 years. Like his neighbor Harry Griffen, Buckner became synonymous with the sound management of the region's water supply. He also served on the San Diego County Water Authority and championed the creation of the Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College, where part of the garden is named for him. Warren and his late wife, Virginia, moved to San Diego in 1942 when he joined Consolidated Vultee (later Convair and General Dynamics) as an engineer and aircraft …
He was also a member of the College Avenue Baptist Church.
Jerry Victor Williams—a Mt. Miguel High School graduate—died May 1, according to a U-T San Diego obituary. He was 73. He grew up in Spring Valley and served at Fort Ord, according to the newspaper. He was also a member of the College Avenue Baptist Church. Details for a celebration of life have not yet been released.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #282 of La Mesa.
Hugh Elvin Laird—an East County resident—died April 29, according to a U-T San Diego obituary. He was 82. He served in the U.S. Navy, worked for General Dynamics and Solar Tubines and was an officer of the American Legion Post #282 of La Mesa, according to the newspaper. He died at the Lemon Grove Care & Rehabilitation, according to the newspaper. A memorial service will be held May 9 at Greenwood Salli Lynn Chapel.

Former NFL star Junior Seau died Wednesday in his Oceanside home.
A prayer vigil is planned for fallen NFL star Junior Seau on Thursday evening at his home, the North County Times reports. The house is on The Strand south of the Oceanside Pier. His family is also planning a memorial service. Seau died Wednesday morning at his home. Police are investigating the shooting death as a suicide. Read more on the North County Times.

Friends, family and fans of Junior Seau gathered at the Oceanside home where the NFL legend was found dead.
The Wednesday morning death of former NFL star Junior Seau drew hundreds of mourners to his beachfront home, where the life-long Oceanside resident was often seen enjoying the sun and chatting up neighbors. “He was a good, humble man,” said neighbor Eric Dobbins, who often saw Seau surfing, riding his bike on the boardwalk and eating dinner at Oceanside haunt Primo’s. ”He didn’t act like a celebrity. Ludger “Lud” Richard Camp—who owned Corral Ford in Lemon Grove for 15 years until his retirement in 1996—died at home April 13 in La Jolla after a battle with Parkinson’s disease, said a U-T San Diego obituary. He was 83. “At 16, during the early years of World War II, he left school to enlist in the Army Air Corps,” said the obituary. “He became one of the highest ranked trainees in Texas. However, he was honorably discharged when it was discovered that he was underage. “Mr. Camp then enlisted in the Merchant Marines where he was sent to Catalina Island. Depression is the most painful thing a person can experience. Think of how much physical pain he endured in his long NFL career. Mr. Seau must have been suffering for sometime. We need to get the message out about the many times overwhelming consequences of the pain that depression can bring.
