The American Legion Dewitt C. Mitchell Post 201 is a branch of the largest veterans organization in the nation. The…More Legion aims to carry out its mission, as per its website, of "mentoring and sponsoring youth programs in the community, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting a strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans," in Lemon Grove.</p> <p>Some of the many services it provides includes the creation of the Child Welfare Fund, the foundation and operation of the American Legion baseball league, the operation of the Heroes to Hometowns program, offering students scholarships, a family support network, POW/MIA advocacy and flag advocacy.</p>

Marty Block is the state Assembly member representing the 78th District, which includes Lemon Grove, parts of Spring…More Valley, Chula Vista and San Diego. He was elected in 2008 and is up for re-election in the fall of 2010.</p> <p>Before his election to the state Assembly, Block had a 26-year career in education, and was a dean and a professor at San Diego State University, as well as president of the San Diego Community College District board of trustees.</p> <p>The assemblyman's office can assist residents with renters' and homeowners' programs, property tax issues, consumer complaints, veterans' affairs and more.</p> <p> The district office in Lemon Grove is not visible from the street; it's located on the second floor of a strip mall, directly above a Blockbuster Video store.</p>
