Each year, tens of thousands of families suffer through hunger in San Diego County.
The challenges are particularly difficult during the holiday season, when family celebrations begin to center around the dinner table.
The week before Christmas is a great time to donate food to needy local families. Consider a donation of food of funds to the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank. The food bank serves on average 320,000 people per month in San Diego County.
“Hundreds of thousands of people in San Diego County struggle with hunger daily,” officials with the food bank wrote on their website. “Of San Diego County’s 3.1 million residents, more than 462,000 people live below the poverty level. This equates to a household income of less than $11,490 for an individual and $23,550 for a family of four. These individuals face ‘food insecurity’ which means that little or no food is available at home and they do not always know where they will find their next meal.”
